Analogue Hearing Aids - Is it the Cheaper Option?

Analogue Hearing Aids have been used to combat hearing loss for over 60 years. They are still used by thousands of people who have been using them for many years. Referring to a number of forum and message board sites on the internet, there is still a very big following for the Analogue Aid. Comments such as :- Analogue Aids give a more natural sound, they can give more output, they don't block out background noise such as traffic noise etc. which can be a hazard.

Many people who have been using Analogue Aids for a number of years are finding the Digital Aids very difficult to acclimatise to.

Analogue Hearing Aids consist of a very basic set up, a microphone that receives the sound, an amplifier to increase the sound and a speaker that passes the amplified sound into the ear channel. The basic principle of the Hearing Aid is that it amplifies all sounds, collected by the microphone, to an equal amount. Recent developments have overcome some of the disadvantages perceived of the Analogue Hearing Aid

The new more advanced Aids have the ability to be programmed to suit the specific persons requirements. Programming is usually carried out by the audiologist . In general there are just two groups of setting, each one set up for different environments such as noisy or quiet. The user only has to click on a switch to change the settings. In some cases a remote control is available.

Some Analogue Programmable Aids, include an induction coil which can be used to help in sounds that are sometimes hard to hear, especially when using a telephone.

Analogue Aids are available in varies configurations, the most common is behind the ear type but other types include an Aid that can fit into a pocket or round the waist. There are also very small Aids that can fit into the ear channel.

The biggest advantage of the Analogue is the cost. Because of the simplicity of the circuiting within the Aid the manufacturing costs are relatively low. Programmable Aids are obviously cost slightly more because they are more complex but usually still much cheaper compared to Digital. As seen from various forums and message boards the Analogue Hearing Aid will still play an important part in helping people with hearing loss.

Hearing loss can affect many people and not all sufferers can afford the more expensive Digital Hearing Aids. The Analogue Hearing Aid therefore serves a very useful purpose in improving hearing for even those who cannot afford very much.

Mike Roberts has been advising sufferers of hearing loss for some time. To find out more about hearing aids and the most suitable one for you visit http://www.aids2hearing.co.uk

Hearing aids on the NHS

For as long as most of us can remember there has been a lengthy wait for a NHS hearing assessment and the subsequent fitting of NHS analogue hearing aid, with many people waiting many months to complete the process.
The more recent introduction of digital hearing aids has greatly improved the performance of modern hearing aids. However this has also lead to an increase in demand from new users and those looking to upgrade their current analogue hearing aids. This increased demand has impacted service levels and many NHS waiting lists have increased as a result.
It is a Government commitment to ensure assessments for hearing aids are made within a six weeks. Unfortunately this target only relates to the first stage of the process and makes no difference if patients have to endure months on a waiting list before prescribed hearing aid is actually fitted. Lengthy delays between assessment and fitting can also lead to the need for a re-assessment at the time of fitting.
The RNID estimates that around five hundred thousand people are currently waiting to have digital hearing aids fitted by the NHS.

The RNID also said:

"We remain seriously concerned about the capacity of the NHS to meet the Government’s aim of ensuring that no-one waits more than 18 weeks for a hearing aid fitting by the end of 2008."

There main area of concern is that the push to meet these new targets may result in a fall in the quality of the service offered.

As a result many people in the UK choose to opt out of the NHS service and buy their digital hearing aid directly from a retailer who can offer instant services.

What PR Organizations Say, What They Mean About Options Backdating

If you look at all the press releases from various companies on the options backdating issue and start to detect patterns, you cannot but help think they are written all by the same legal firm - they have the same boiler plate stuff, bunch of nonsense, a few technical terms and a few buzzwords. So we are attempting to clear up the mess with plain-speak.

1. What they say - ” The SEC has issued an informal inquiry against our options backdating practices”.

What they mean - ” Damm! the SEC is a pretty rough bunch. Their informal inquiry looks more like a indicitment. We are not exactly sure what all we did wrong and not sure of what all we have to do to correct it. In any event, if we say its informal then the stockholders will think its nothing big.”

2. What they say - ” We intend to fully cooperate with the SEC” What they mean - “What choice do we have? Its not as if we have a whole bunch of options. Its like your ex-wife asking you to talk to her through the divorce settlement. If we dont cooperate we will all go to jail. We have to cooperate else we’ll look guilty. If we do cooperate we will only end up paying a bunch of lawyers fines and settlement fees.”

3. What they say - “There were material weaknesses in our internal controls” What they mean - ” No one was minding the shop really. We were all busy getting drunk on “eyeballs”, “business development deals” and “barney relationships”. The accountants and lawyers were there too. They actually helped us through this. When someone from the audit team asked, we would either transfer them or ask them to leave. Now we have a mess. This SOX thing has also put some pressure on us. If we admit we had internal controls problems but now we passed our SOX audit, then we will absolve ourselves of all blame.”

4. What they say - “Senior executives in the company who have been associated with this have resigned” What they mean - ” Its not us its them. We are the nice guys. If there was anything going on it was under their watch. Sue them and leave us alone”

5. What they say - “Our board and audit teams have already started an internal investigation of our options backdating and will report their results soon” What they mean - ” Our board got really scared they might get implicated in this. Finally after all these years they actually have to do some work to earn their pay instead of coming to our meetings, eating donuts, asking for gourmet coffee and paying golf with the CEO. So they came together, asked us to spend a bunch of money so they could CTA (Cover their AS*)

Do You Have A Vision For Your Online Business?

A characteristic of many successful businesses (both online and off-line) is that they have a vision for their business. They know what they are working towards, and they are creating a business that will be like their vision of the future. It is always a good idea to stop every so often and reconsider what your vision is for your business.

So how do you create a vision for your online business? The first step is to ask yourself what you really want to create with your business. Imagine the ideal business that you want to own. Do not be distracted by what is or is not possible and do not evaluate whether it will work. Just consider the possibilities and how aiming for what you want will be unique to you. No one else will be able to copy it because it will be yours.

Some people will be inspired by a desire to create something new and different. Others will want to create a second income. Some will want to create a new shopping experience for their customers while others will want to create new products or services that better meet the needs of people today. Others may just want to get rich.

Once you have imagined your ideal and have a vision of what you want, spend some time considering how you will make a difference. Will you be setting a standard of customer service that will be the envy of other businesses? Will your product or service meet a need so fully that your customers will tell their friends and generate business for you? Will you be an inspiration to all those who come in contact with you so that they will want to stay in contact and follow your recommendations? The list of how you can make a difference is endless.

Write a short statement setting out your vision for your business and how you will make a difference. If your vision is based on assumptions, spend some time testing those assumptions to make sure they are valid. Keep the vision before you so that it guides your decisions and plans for your online business.

Make sure you breathe life into your written vision statement. Use powerful language that is strong on stories, or metaphors or examples. Ensure that you speak from the heart and work to make the intangible tangible. Use symbols, themes, slogans, etc., to make it come to life and be real for you, your employees and your customers.

As you move towards your vision, ensure that you listen first and often. Your customers and your employees will be able to provide you with ways to achieve your vision through their feedback. Listening in a non-defensive and uncritical way can be very enlightening which will enable you to be better able to define the needs of your customers and to satisfy those needs.

Over time, you will need to adjust some of your actions and tactics as they will not be taking you closer to your vision. Through listening to the feedback you have received, and monitoring the results you have achieved, you will know which actions or tactics need modification or change. By way of a simple example, the results of an ad may improve with one headline but not with another. Change to the one that is providing better results.

Some businesses have experienced tremendous success through having large audacious goals. Remember that large goals can take a long time to achieve. However, if your vision is driving you strongly, you will thrive on taking the actions required to achieve your vision over a long period of time. Also, some visions are so powerful that they rewrite the industry rules and create a new competitive space.

Make the time to develop your vision for your future online business success. Know what you want to achieve and ensure that all your actions are taking you in that direction. Listen to the feedback you receive and monitor the results you are achieving so that you can change tack if necessary as you move closer to your vision. Dare to be different and to make a difference with your online business.

Learn the 3 reasons for getting product refund

So now that you've finally decided to buy that product and cannot wait to test it out , you have to find out that it does anything else but what you've expected. Don't worry about it, you still have a chance to get your money back with the following tips for obtaining a product refund instantly.

1. Wrong advertising

"Get 10.000 hits to your website in 24 hours". Such seductive promises might sure make you wanna flip out your credit card immediately. But when you practice the methods or use the software and have to find out that those 10.000 hits might really result in 10, then this is a legitimate reason for requesting a refund. Unfortunately it's not always that easy. Many vendors get around such wrong advertising by stating in the fine print that these results can not be guaranteed.

2. Product outdated

Believe it or not, but I've seen products that were advertised and still happily took the money out of the customers' pockets but were totally outdated or did not work anymore. I once bought a product that could not be downloaded any longer but still had the sales page up and running, it even displayed the current date pointing the end of a special advancement. Every try to contact the creator of the software failed and after I read in a forum that I wasn't the only one not being able to download the software,I contacted the credit card processing company and got my money back.

3. Usability

Not every software is as user-friendly as Windows (you got the joke, right?!), which can be frustrating if you want nothing more than use it immediately. For most complex software products there exist written tutorials that exactly describe how to use them and sometimes even video tutorials that make the product handling even easier. If you've read and watched all of their tutorials and still cannot manahe to use the product, this to the creator and get your money back
If you've reached the product creator and still were non able to get a refund despite some legitimate and great reasons, not all hope is gone. Most market places offer a refund guarantee for products that were sold through them (e. g. Clickbank offers its customers a general refund policy of 8 weeks after the product purchase, for a seller like PayDotCom you have to contact the credit card processor like Paypal which has a refund policy of 60 days).

It is always suggested to clearly state the reason for your product return and to keep a social communication style. Even if the product is not worth a single penny it doesn't make things better when you insult the creator. Try to show that you've really trying to use the product in an good way, maybe tie some screenshots, include suggestions what could be better, etc. The product creator might loose you as a client but still can benefit from your experience and will most of the time happily give you the refund.

Whatever you do, please be fair. Its not just right to purchase a product and you will request a refund to get your money back, but continue to use the product. Most market places (Clickbank, PayDotCom) tolerate two or even more gives back, but after that you may not be able to purchase anything again by certaincompany.

Brand Your Website's URL With a Favicon

Brand Your Website's URL With a Favicon

Have you ever noticed that when you look at your browser favorites menu or the address bar, some entries have their own little icon beside their URL?

It's called a "Favicon" (a graphic file with a .ico extension) and it's placed in the root directory of the web site. Everytime you bookmark a site that has its own favicon.ico file, it is added to your browser, and it will be visible from then on in the favorites menu and in the address bar.

At the beginning, only large websites had a favicon, but now you too can create one and use it to brand your website. The first thing you have to do is to create your favicon. To be displayed by browsers, it must have a size of 16x16 pixels. To create one, you can use a graphics program called Icon Forge (you can download a free trial version in CNET):

http://download.com.com/3000-2195-10128559.html

You can either create an icon from scratch, or import a 16x16 '.gif' or '.jpg' file and save it as a '.ico' file.

You will then have to save your icon with the default name of 'favicon.ico', and upload it to the root directory of your website (where your index page is). Finally, after that, you must associate your icon to your web page. You do that by including the following HTML code immediately after the HEAD tag of your page:

link REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="http://www.yourwebsite.com/favicon.ico"

Once you've done that, that's it. To try it out, go to your web page and add your page to your favorites. You should be able to see the favicon next to your bookmarked page title. Also, the next time you type your URL in the address bar, you will see your favicon to the left of the URL.

(Favicons work with Internet Explorer 5 or newer, and with recent versions of Netscape.)
